Our coaching staff thought it would be a good opportunity for our high school basketball team to see what happens at the next level, so we took them to a college practice this week.
It was a lot of fun for the girls to see the University of Washington basketball team practice, talk to the players and then to tour the DI locker room (things have changed since I played in the 80’s and the women’s team used the back storage room for pregame).
The day was even better for us coaches. We reminisced about “the good old days” and learned some new drills to keep our girls focused as we head into playoffs.
…always searching for something new.
Saw where you took your team to watch a UW girls basketball practice, what a great opportunity for your team. I’m not sure if there was the boys “white” team playing against them at that time or not, for practice purposes. Wendy’s oldest, Alex, who is now a Freshman at the U tried out and was selected by the girls coach to play on the “white” basketball team. The boys play against the girls during their practices in exchange for Nike UW basketball gear at the end of the season.
Let me know if your team will be playing any more games this season as I would love to watch them play and you coach.
There was a white team practicing! I didn’t look very closely at them, but I did notice one kid who got an elbow in the face, but it wasn’t Alex. I didn’t realize they got some gear. That’s great, on top of a good work out. 🙂
It’s the start of Metro Playoffs for basketball. We have our first game tomorrow night at Cleveland (#1 in the State). Definitely a challenge! 🙂 After that our schedule depend on win/loss. We have auto into districts but seeding will make a big difference. 🙂
